Film Festival - Animation for Children and Youth

English summary.

Film Festival – Animation for Children and Youth is an annual animation festival that invites children and youth on a guided journey through the amazing world of animation. The festival is arranged by Centre for Education and Animation that has more than 16 years of experience in the field of using animation as a learning tool.

Cinema
We screen a wide range of animated films – from new, groundbreaking feature films and animated classics to state of the art short films. The free screenings take place locally in Viborg and focus on introducing children and youth to areas of the animation field that are seldomly screened in cinemas.

Schools
Secondly, the festival introduces school classes from Region Midtjylland to the use of animation as teaching tool. The students learn how to animate their own short films and the teachers learn how to make use of animation in class. The partaking classes submit their animated films to the festival’s film competition. The films are then judged by both a jury and the general public and the three best movies are awarded at a grand award ceremony. Each year, around 20 schools participate in the event.

International
Finally, the festival also has an international branch called Eye of Animation where school classes from other countries create animated films and share them with the world on the EYE OF ANIMATION website . Students from countries such as Estonia, Brazil and Denmark have participated, but the number of countries increase every year.

Values
The aim of Film Festival - Animation for Children and Youth is to heighten children and youth’ awareness and knowledge about film media. We broaden their horizons by showing them high quality animated movies of artistic value. Often, these films are shown throughout the European film festival circuit but they rarely reach the audiences of Mid Jutland.

By teaching children and youth about the film media, we introduce an alternative to the dominance of the written language. We believe that the role of visual communication will grow increasingly important and that the ability to proactively make use of it is a significant and vital skill.

The students develop their skills in turning their imagination, thoughts and emotions into moving images, giving them insight into the universal language of animation.
